The last retreat we have scheduled on the Buddha Master’s sutra that uses the Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra to teach us how to realize prajna will start Friday evening, December 27, at 7:00 with the introduction to the sutra–Lesson One, that starts the discussion on “What Is Prajna?” There will be three more classes at 9:00 am and 2:00 and 7:00 pm on Saturday and two more again on Sunday at 2:00 and 7:00 pm on “How to realize Prajna.” These five classes are not about the sutra itself, but the Buddha Master’s teachings on what we must do–our “Home Work” if you will–on what we need to realize the wonderful and marvelous realization of prajna for ourselves or how do we gain the wisdom of a Buddha? It covers His special teachings on not ignoring cause and effects; taking refuge; understanding impermanence; the precepts, rules and methods of Buddhism; the special and ordinary preliminary practices; and other essential things we need to know and do to progress on this path. There is also a section on Daoism and some simple techniques on how to pass through barriers and avoid false practice. I moved this epilogue to the core text to the weekend with the hope that more of you may attend and receive these important lessons.
Sunday morning will be a Dharma Assembly to seek blessings and protection from disasters and to help the deceased on their journey onward.
The retreat will continue Monday December 30 until Friday, January 3, at noon with classes at 9:00 am and again at 7:00 pm (except Friday) with the remaining text on inverted dream thinking, different levels of Nirvana, four kinds of dreaming minds, Annuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi, and the great bright, supreme, unequaled Prajna Paramita Mantra that can remove all suffering and is true not false. Please join us for any or all of the retreat. Please let us know in advance if you want to stay at the temple and if you will join us for any meals.
