Eleven of the players and their coach were ordained as Buddhist monks on Wednesday during a ceremony attended by the widow of Saman Gunan, the diver who died. They did this to honor the Navy Seal who died while helping in their rescue and to express their gratitude to the many people who helped in their rescue.

Thai Wild Boars attend religious ceremony prior to receiving monastic ordination.
