Some Buddhist believe that you need to be born as a male to become a holy being and that the spiritual capacity of females is not as great as that of males, but that is not the case. Green Tara, one of the most popular yidams in Tibetan Buddhism chose to retain the female form when She became a Buddha. Lady Niguma (10th-11th centuries CE), was a famous Tibetan yogini and enlightened one who is one of the founders of the Shangpa sect. Lady Yeshe Tshogyal (757-817 CE) is considered another Tibetan matriarch in the Nyingma sect.
Erroneous View #84: THE VIEW THAT THE SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION OF FEMALES IS NOT AS GOOD AS THAT OF MALES
Those with this view think that the spiritual foundation of females is not as good as that of males. They think that males have better spiritual capacity. This is an erroneous view. Those with a good spiritual foundation can be found among both males and females.
