In general, there are two types of nectar: true nectar and false nectar. H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III warns us that it is an erroneous view to hold ordinary medicine pills made from sharira (relics) and medicinal herbs and empowered by chanting mantras, reciting sutras, and/or practicing a dharma as nectar pills, although they are often called that. True nectar is precious food which is bestowed by the Buddhas from the land of the Buddhas. It is not a food which exists in this earthly world.
Bodhisattvas and venerable ones are not able to bestow nectar. Other than Buddhas, only Bodhisattvas with universal enlightenment or wonderful enlightenment can bestow nectar because They are incarnations of ancient Buddhas and therefore possess the enlightenment capacity of a Buddha. Therefore, “Buddha-bestowed nectar” must be caused by a Buddha.

Erroneous View 44: THE VIEW THAT PILLS MADE OF ORDINARY MEDICINE ARE REAL NECTAR
There are those who mix various ordinary medicines into pills. They then bless the pills by reciting sutras, chanting mantras, and practicing a dharma. They call such pills true nectar. This is also an erroneous view.
