H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has told us that if you want to be a master with disciples, you must deeply enter some of the sutras and commentaries (treatises) to establish a foundation. These include, but are not limited to Imparting the Absolute Truth Through the Heart Sutra by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, The Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, the Heart Sutra, the Diamond Sutra, the Avatamsaka Sutra, the Lotus Sutra, the Suramgama Sutra, the Agama Sutras (or Pali Nikayas) , the Hetu-Vidya Treatise, the Madhyamaka Treatise (Mulamadhyamakakarika) by Nagarjuna, the Abhidharma-kosa Treatise by Vashubandhu, the Prajna Treatise (Abhisamaya Allamkara) by Asangha/Maitreya, the Precepts and Discipline Treatise, the Consciousness-Only Treatise (Bodhisattvabhumi or Yogacarabhumishastra) by Asangha, the Lam Rim Chen Mo (Broad Commentary on Levels of the Bodhi Path) by Tsongkapa, the Bodhisattvacharyavatara Treatise (A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way Of Life) by Shantideva, and others. He further said that doing so will reduce the possibility of leading others astray in the process of teaching. Not all of these are available yet in English. Click titles for links to sources and to read more about some of the texts and purchase books, if desired. Because these are all translations of ancient texts, they probably contain errors and may not represent correct views and understanding of the Buddha-dharma. They are offered as the best known translation for your reference.
For ordinary students, you can just focus on understanding Imparting the Absolute Truth Through the Heart Sutra and understanding and practicing The Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation (SAUMOL) by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Remember, that even though we do not yet have the essential essences from the SAUMOL in English, we do have the “128 Evil and Erroneous Views” and What Is Cultivation?” and other resources. Learning From Buddha should also be included.
