Disciples attended classes at the Amitabha Buddha Temple of Compassion and Wisdom in Rosemead, California where we listened to translations of various discourses given by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III on the Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation (SAUMOL). One discourse answered questions asked by students in China over twenty years ago, before any of the SAUMOL was published, while the others were more recent and provided an introduction to both the preliminary practices and the formal practices contained in what was published in Chinese in July 2010. What we have are the two “essences” that pertain to cultivation, but only in Chinese. We also have a very preliminary version of the 128 Evil and Erroneous Views in English that we have been studying through this blog. I am hopeful that the 128 Views will be enhanced and improved when we have more of the text.
I have permission now to read a preliminary and unapproved translation of the 2010 release at the temple, which was done. While I am hopeful that this text will become available to all who seek it, I do not know when that will happen. It is a dharma practice that anyone can follow–whether they have the related initiations or not. It is not just for those who follow the vajrayana or even just for Buddhists. It would be helpful for any sincere seeker of truth and liberation in these Dharma-Ending days.
Next month we will start hearing another preliminary translation of another very important work; the commentary on the Heart Sutra by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Since it is quite dense and long, that will take several months. It is possible that we could do another reading of the SAUMOL, if there is sufficient interest.
