We can only build a 12-foot diameter cave without a building permit and only use it for storage, but yesterday (October 18, 2021) we started preparing a pad for an experimental version of what we hope to build for those who want to take solitary retreats. While removing the cattail invasion and deepening the pond, the grading contractor also created a 25-foot pad to hold the superadobe structure. Several students will be arriving to help with this project. We are experimenting with the soil we have, which turns out to be sand, clay, and hardpan.
Several days ago the nuns bravely fired up our weed-eaters and manned with rakes and pickaxes, cleared much of the field in preparation. I will add to this article as the project progresses.
