Memorial Day Retreat

Oryoki breakast during Memorial Day Retreat 2021.

The retreat was held under COVID rules requiring masks except for meals and social distancing, but we managed to cover all of Part One which just explained each word in the title of the Heart Sutra. No, make that each syllable as the word “Paramita” was treated as two concepts: “Paramita” and “Ta”–a unique way of explaining the term and one that the Buddha Master told us had not been correctly explained in the past. “Paramita” refers to “the other shore” and “ta” refers to concentration and both concepts must be included to fully understand the meaning of the term. Although some of the participants also read other parts of the text that they had not read before, the group read aloud and discussed the

Retreats in the time of COVID.

Most of the group took off Saturday, May 29 to visit the site of the Buddhist Village being developed in Hesperia to help pland weeping willows and Cherries around the lake and relocate other trees. The lake has been greatly enlarged as part of the site development work on the project. I am told that they are working on a web site that will feature this gathering of many students and bring us up to date on the plans and progress at the site. hat I have seen of the plans for the project are very exciting. I am hopeful that we will also be able to schedule some time to again visit this future site of the Correct Dharma Temple in Hesperia at our next retreat in July. We are also planning on visiting the Holy Miracles Temple in Pasadena.

We will continue our study of Imparting the Absolute Truth Through the Heart Sutra on July 2. CLICK for our retreat schedule and more information about attending. Our governor has promised that our COVID restrictions will be lifted and we can host a full retreat without masks. All of us at the temple now have our shots and are ready to help you experience this profound teaching.

Evening Snack Oryoki style.
