This simple chant is offered at the beginning of most activities at our and most Buddhist temples and ceremonies to all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Mahasattvas. Non-Buddhists sometimes mistake our devotion as worshipping of graven images, but it is not like that. These are symbolic offerings showing our respect for the Three Jewels or Triple Gems (the Buddhas, the Dharma, and the Sangha) who serve as our role models, our inspiration for what we aspire to be. It is a way of showing our gratitude for what they have given us. With our understanding of the laws of karma and belief in rebirth and reincarnation, we make offerings leading to the accumulation of merit, which leads to a better rebirth in the cycle of birth and death and/or progress towards a release from the suffering of samsara or worldly existence. Mahasattvas are very highly evolved Bodhisattvas that are almost Buddhas.
Incense Offering
Incense Burning, All space is filled with the fragrance.
All Buddhas smell it from afar.
Auspicious clouds gather everywhere.
With utmost sincerity, All Buddhas appear.
We pay homage and offer clouds of incense to the Bodhisattvas and the Mahasattvas!
We pay homage and offer, clouds of incense to the Bodhisattvas and the Mahasattvas!
We pay homage and offer, clouds of incense to the Bodhisattvas ❀ and the Mahasattvas!
