Although the eight great bodhisattvas all possess the same qualities and powers, each one displays perfection in a particular area or activity.

Youthful Manjushri embodies wisdom; glorious Vajrapani represents power; protector Maitreya embodies love; Kshitigarbha increases the richness and fertility of the land; powerful Avalokiteshvara (Kuan Yin) embodies compassion; Sarvanivara Navishkambhin purifies wrong-doing and obstructions;  Akashagarbha has the perfect ability to purify transgressions; and the most noble Samantabhadra displays special expertise in making offerings and prayers of aspiration.
