Today we discussed ten erroneous views concerning Vajra Masters. This included the idea that it was acceptable for vajra masters to make unreasonable demands on or take property from their disciples or use their position as a lineage holder to obtain offerings from a disciple. It was also an erroneous view to apply the Fifty Stanzas of Guru devotion to false masters or follow a master who is arrogant or no longer has bodhichitta. However, on the other side, it is also an erroneous view to conceal matters from a virtuous or true master or not make offerings to your master after you attain realization through receiving your master’s dharma. Another erroneous view was to consider that just because someone has a legitimate lineage does not mean that master is necessarily an upright or great master. You should still evaluate his or her behavior according to all the 128 Views contained in the Supreme and Unsurpassed Mahamudra of Liberation. It was the concept that a master, disciple, or anyone else who thinks that a master may transfer part of his lifespan to a disciple is harboring an erroneous view that generated the most discussion. The master should instead teach the disciple to transform his own lifespan through cultivating himself since, in reality, it is very difficult for such transference to succeed due to the law of cause and effect.
