We discussed various questions raised about evil and erroneous views held concerning holy beings today and agreed to meet again next Sunday at 2:00 pm PDT to reflect on how what we have learned from these teachings from H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III relate to our practice and cultivation. We will also review the following questions about holy beings–some were asked and some were not:

  1. Who are considered to be holy beings in Buddhism?
  2. What is the major difference in the basic goal of Buddhism and other world religions?
  3. What are the differences in goals between Hinayana and Mahayana Buddhists?
  4. If a famous rinpoche does not exhibit great compassion, can he or she be a Bodhisattva?
  5. Should we believe anyone who is a famous or popular Dharma master or Rinpoche?
  6. Were living beings once Buddhas, but have devolved into ordinary beings? If not, why not?
  7. Do cockroaches have Buddha Nature?  Can they become Buddhas?
  8. If you have the good fortune to receive a great dharma, will you then become a holy being?
  9. If someone is head of a great temple, is he or she a holy being?
  10. Do holy beings always reveal themselves?
  11. Do great holy beings always have many disciples?
  12. Is someone with many disciples a holy being?
  13. What two qualities must a Bodhisattva have?
  14. Is someone who is very generous and does many good deeds a holy being?
  15. Must Great Bodhisattvas be proficient in the Five Vidyas?
  16. Is it acceptable to boast about being a holy Being? (See “The Wrongs of Others Are My Wrongs” quote.)
  17. Should you challenge a master concerning his or her powers?
  18. Are there many Great Bodhisattvas living in the world today?
  19. Do real Bodhisattvas only speak gently?
  20. Is the use of the vajra voice uncompassionate?
  21. Some Bodhisattvas appear to be quite wrathful.   How can this be Bodhisattva behavior?
  22. Do you need a recognition certificate to be a holy person
  23. Are you an eminent monastic if you trained at a famous temple?
  24. Is it wrong to think that if someone learned under many masters, he must be an eminent monastic or holy person?
  25. Is the spiritual foundation of men better than that of women?
