C41-Three Principal Stages & Paths of Buddhist Practice Text Sources -REVISED

Je Tsongkapa (1357–1419), Thanka at the Rubin Museum.

The main text may be currently available on Amazon. However you may also be able to find Principal Teachings of Buddhism by Je Tsongkhapa with commentary by Pabongka Rinpoche at the following sources. The second text, Preparing for Tantra: The Mountain of Blessings by same authors is free at https://www.google.com/books/edition/_/hprXZdxOYC0C?hl=en&gbpv=1. I will include the fourteen verses by Tsongkhapa from both books in the course lessons and we will talk about Pabongka’s commentary during our ZOOM sessions, in case you cannot find the books. You may also read the optional readings from Pabongka Rinpoche’s longer Lam Rim commentary Liberation in the Palm of your Hand:A Concise Discourse on the Path to Enlightenment as edited by Trijang Rinpoche and translated by Michael Richards. It can be downloaded or purchased. Since this course is not in any way a complete Lam Rim course, I did not want to require this, but it is an excellent reference and more complete version of Je Tsongkahapa’s masterpiece. Je Tsongkhapa wrote many versions of his Stages of the Path to Enlightenment and all will provide the basic concepts we will be discussing in this introductory course to the writings of the great Je Tsongkhapa. Please understand that C41 is only intended to establish the framework for the progressive stages and three main paths of all Buddhist practice and to demonstrate how the teachings of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III can relate to this framework.

There are other secondary sources, with widely varying price tags, but they may require some time to receive. PLEASE DO NOT LET THE UNAVAILABLILITY OF THE TEXT STOP YOU FROM TAKING THIS COURSE. There will be many downloads and other references and the texts will be discussed during the ZOOM sessions. Please download and share this flyer with anyone you think might like to learn more about Buddhism and how to practice. Remember, you do not need to be Buddhist to benefit from the practice and teachings.
