In 1992, H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III gave a series of very famous discourses in China using the text, meaning, and principles of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva’s Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra to clearly explain the relationships between mind, Buddha, and living beings. These discourses were published in Chinese in 2014 as Expounding the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra. Earlier His Holiness told a number of Western disciples that this is the only book we need to read to understand emptiness and become enlightened. Just before He left this world, He also told us that “I have already brought true Buddha Dharma to this world. Everyone who practices in accordance with The Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation and Expounding the Absolute Truth Through the Heart Sutra will surely attain liberation.”
I will give a class on the Introduction and title of Expounding the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra at Hua Zang Si, a Buddhist temple in San Francisco, on January 27 and 28, starting at 10:00 am each day with a second class offered on Saturday afternoon. The course will cover the material we discussed in DCB21 at Learning from Buddha College and Seminary. We will cover the meaning of all three types of prajna, the dharmakaya, the paramis, dhyana, and other principles and concepts that form the foundation for understanding the absolute truth of the Heart Sutra. Remember this is one of the two books that the Buddha Master said we needed to practice to become enlightened.
