S01-SAUMOL Seminar continues December 14, 2024

On December 7 we continued our discussion of the introduction and Xiamen Most Excellent Oceanic Mind-essence parts of the Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation (SAUMOL) with Reba Jinbo Rinpoche polling us on our understanding of certain items in this part of the SAUMOL.

Reba then shared his research into the meaning of the Chinese term “xiamen” as used in the title of the second mind-essence of the SAUMOL. He showed us how to explore this term more deeply using AI and other internet tools. He not only takes Bodi Wentu’s definition from “What Is Cultivation?” which states that xiamen means “It is difficult to incarnate as a human being. It is even more difficult to incarnate as a human being with the opportunity to encounter the true Buddha-dharma,” but also showed us how to use “textual evidence” from his academic background in English literature to find deeper meaning while still using the guidelines we have from the Buddha Master in His “128 Evil and Erroneous Views”

He also gave us a homework assignment to test our understanding from both this session and the first one a week earlier. It is not too late to join us and complete the homework for next week, but you must do so before 7:30 am on Saturday. You must both be enrolled in the class and register for the Zoom session. CLICK for more info on how to join. When you enroll in S01-Seminar on SAUMOL you will have access to the videos of past ZOOM discussions and the lessons and assignments.
