Couldn’t resist sharing this photo taken in San Juan Capistrano on the way to today’s class on “Learning From Buddha.” This was the first in a series of three classes where H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III told us how and what we should learn from the Buddha. We learned that although you must have correct dharma to practice, you also had to cultivate yourself to become like a Buddha or Bodhisattva. You needed to have the ten good characteristics and never display their opposite traits. You needed to hold the four limitless states of mind for all living beings, develop your bodhichitta, and practice the six Paramita’s. To be able to do this you should check yourself three times during the day, reflecting on how well you were doing in this regard and where you needed to do better and then, do better. This is why we chant those and other teachings we have received from the Buddha’s during our daily devotions. I will talk more about this in future blogs as we explore the chants we have in our temple chant book. CLICK for more on the chant book.
